Honoring Black History Month and Lunar New Year in Visitacion Valley
This past weekend, we were excited to celebrate the beauty of two cultures with a combined Black History Month and Lunar New Year gathering in Visitacion Valley.
We wanted to share our deep thanks to San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Shamann Walton for organizing this event, which included everything from traditional Chinese and African dance performances to qigong and hot siva exercises.
SF Safe distributed decorative Lunar New Year gift boxes with fortune cookies, candy, decorations, and red envelopes. And the CYC Bayview Youth Advocates (BYA) gave a special presentation on the origins of Black History Month, enhanced by their original poems and artwork.
